Leo Powell

June 1, 1933 — September 21, 2019

Marion-Thomas “Leo” Powell, 86, passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.

Leo was born on June 1, 1933 in Creal Springs to Vernie and Recil (Buckner) Powell.  He married Shirley Bearden on February 10, 1956 in Marion.  She preceded him in death on June 14, 2013.

Leo served in the U.S. Army.  He was a UMWA coal miner and attended the First Church of God in Marion.  Leo loved hunting and fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include-

Son- Jim Powell and wife Deanna of Marion

Son- David Powell and wife LaNarda of Marion

Daughter- Gina Leamen and husband Tracey of Marion

Eight Grandchildren:

Nine Great Grandchildren- Jalyn, Gavon, Kaela, Cameron, Kaelyn, Hayden, Kamden, Blake and Piper

Special niece- Kathy Price

Special niece- Debbi Wierman

Special niece- Kendra Chamness

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Junior, Melvin and Harlan Powell and sister, Margaret Rushing.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Roy Pepmiller officiating.  Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion.  Military Rites will be performed by the Marion VFW with assistance from the National Guard. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 PM, Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at the funeral home.
