LENA PAULINE ODUM-HIGGERSON MARION-Lena Pauline Odum-Higgerson, 93, of Marion passed away at 7:22 PM, Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Fountain Nursing Home in Marion. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Tim Ozment officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Marion. Lena was born October 11, 1915 in Carbondale to John and Minnie Ethel (Kelly) Brown. She married Fred Odum, who preceded her in death in 1979; she later married Paul Higgerson, who also preceded her in death. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley Kummerow and Al Seymour of Richmond, Eunice Hampton of Marion, and Margaret Elaine and Dennis Poland of Marion; sons and daughters-in-law, Fred and Connie Sue Odum of Marion and Harold Eugene and Madonna Odum of Dallas, Texas; eleven grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and brother and sister-in-law, James and Geneva Brown of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; brother, Walter Brown; and sister, Lillian Jack-Parks. Lena formerly attended Scottsboro Baptist Church, and was currently a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She formerly worked at Smoler’s in Herrin and was a long distance operator for Bell Telephone in Chicago and General Telephone in the Marion area retiring in 1977.
