LaVerne Marks, 93, of Marion passed away at 6:00 AM on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at his home with family by his side.
Graveside funeral services will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 10:00 AM with Brother RH Chitwood officiating. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.
LaVerne was born in Spillertown to Edgar & Cora (Rader) Marks on Saturday, June 14, 1919. He married Nola Sanders on Friday, March 14, 1941 in Charleston, MO; she preceded him in death on Friday, May 4, 2012 after 71 years together.
LaVerne is survived by his daughter, Shelby Evrard of Marion; grandchildren, Lynn & Mike Cox, Shelly Tyner, Douglas Davis and Lana & John Bradley Wells; great-grandchildren Zachary Cox, Grace Cox, Jacob Tyner, Jacqueline Tyner and Brianna Wells; son-in-law, Gordon Gene Davis
Mr. Marks was preceded in death by the love of his life, Nola; his parents; daughter, Lavelle Davis; grandson, Dale Gene Davis and son-in-law, Noel Evrard.
LaVerne was a US Army Veteran, having served during WWII. He was a retired butcher having worked at Bays Thriftway. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern Illinois and especially Mike Clark & Dave West for all their love and care shown to Mr. Marks during his final days.
