Lavern Palmer

Lavern Palmer MARION-Lavern Palmer, 82, of Marion passed away at 3:45 PM, Friday, October 31, 2008 at the V. A. Medical Center in Marion. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, November 3, 2008 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Scott Kallem officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Davis Prairie Cemetery, east of Marion. Mr. Palmer was born June 25, 1926 in Carterville, Illinois to William Virgil and Mary Edith (Vaughn) Palmer. He married Ruth Ann Onstott on March 12, 1954 in Marion; together they shared 54 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife Ruth Ann of Marion; son, Paul Palmer of Springfield; grandchildren, Michael Palmer, Chris Palmer and Tasha Doerr; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Dolly Palmer of Carterville and Curt and Wanda Palmer of Marion; sisters, Dolly Blankenship of Marion, Dorothy Parker of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Chloe Dean Parks of Melbourne, Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Susan Doerr; brothers, Richard Palmer and James Palmer; and sister, Betty Corbitt. Mr. Palmer was a longtime member of Third Baptist Church in Marion. He worked as a pharmacist, retiring after many years. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II.
