Lanora Blumer Walker

October 19, 1934 — June 3, 2014

Carbondale-Lanora Blumer Walker passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 in Carbondale, IL. She is survived by her husband, Willard Walker of Cobden, IL., three sons, Doug (San Francisco), Steve (Clearwater, FL) and Randy (Greenville, SC); two sisters, Virginia Clifton (Crosstown) and Vickie Lange (Scott City); two brothers, Marion (Cape Girardeau) and Bill (Modesto, CA).  Her parents and one brother, James, preceded her in death. She will also be deeply missed by her three daughters-in-law, Nancy Irish (San Francisco), Donna (Clearwater, FL) and Angela (Greenville, SC) and by her two grandchildren, Emily and Sam of Greenville. Lanora was born October 19, 1934 in Arbor, MO, to Eddie and Marie Baker (Bond).  She was the fourth of six children born to the southeast Missouri sharecroppers.  When she was 11 years old, the family moved to Cape Girardeau.  It was 1945 and the end of WWII.  She went on to graduate in the Cape Central High School Class of 1951.  (She was always a very good student and, often, the fastest runner in her class, beating the boys.) She married her childhood sweetheart, Eugene ‘Sonny’ Blumer, on her birthday in 1953.  They raised three sons and spent 51 years together until his death in 2005.  They met in high school when they were assigned the same locker.  Together, they enjoyed a happy and rewarding life full of loving family and long-time friends. She was a strong and independent woman who shared her love and laughter with everyone she knew.  She raised a house-full of boys and welcomed their wives to the family as her own daughters.  She was also an excellent seamstress and loved making clothes & quilts.  She enjoyed her time traveling in Florida - meeting new friends wherever she went.  She and Sonny loved their life on Lake of Egypt in southern Illinois where she will be remembered for making the best pizza and brownies ever.  Lanora also enjoyed bowling, dancing, water-skiing and camping. She worked for the American Red Cross and the American Lung Association. Lanora was also lucky to have found love not once, but twice in her life.  In 2007, she married Willard Walker of Cobden, IL.  They met while dancing and continued to dance and bowl together until recently. According to her wishes, Lanora will be cremated.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Blue Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.
