GOREVILLE- 8220;Kenneth Y. Stokes, 78, of Grand Chain formerly of Goreville passed away at 12:50 PM, Thursday, January 31, 2008 at the home of his daughter surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 4, 2008 at the Blue Funeral Home in Goreville with Reverend Donald Childers officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, February 3, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard. Mr. Stokes was born June 28, 1929 in Elgin, Illinois to John Bryan and Minnie Pearl (Billingsley) Stokes. He married Gladys Hindman on December 16, 1948 in Piggott, Arkansas; together they shared 59 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys of Grand Chain; daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly Ann and Rufus Childers of Creal Springs, Barbara Jean and Clarence Van Hooser of Grand Chain and Kimberly Dianne and Keith Adams of Creal Springs; grandchildren, Kenneth and Chrissy Childers, Dale and Jill Childers, Randy and Michelle Childers, Melissa and Micah Norris, Tabetha Van Hooser, Bryan Van Hooser and Rachelle Adams; and great grandchildren, Colton, Dustin, Ethan, Dakotah, Austin, Mariah, Daisy, Lucy and Audrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Norman “Bud” Stokes and John Raymond Stokes; sisters, Lena Cain and Ludene Johnson; and infant sister, Joyce Ann Stokes.
Mr. Stokes worked maintenance for nursing homes. He served his country with the United States Army. He loved fishing and Gospel music.
