Kenneth Ray “Smitty” Smith MARION-Kenneth Ray “Smitty” Smith, 76, of Marion passed away at 4:00 AM, Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 12, 2008 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, December 11, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by Marion VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Smith was born February 6, 1932 in Hamilton County, Illinois to Luther and Pearl (Tate) Smith. He married Myrna Emery on November 30, 1960 in Marion; together they shared 48 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife, Myrna Smith of Marion; son, Tim Smith of Marion; grandson, Tony Smith; and sister, Helen Karnes of Harrisburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ruby Carter. Mr. Smith worked as a truck driver for the Teamsters Local 347. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the Marion Eagles, American Legion Post 147 and the Teamsters Local 347. He served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
