Kathryn Craig Smoot Phillips MARION-Kathryn Craig Smoot Phillips, 86, of Marion passed away at 5:45 AM, Tuesday, July 4, 2006 at her residence surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, July 7, 2006 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Bill McDonald officiating. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, Thursday, July 6, 2006 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Marion. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mrs. Phillips was born August 8, 1919 in Carrier Mills, Illinois to Samuel and Daisy (Wilkins) Craig. She was married to Johnny Smoot, until his death. She later was married to Harold Phillips, until his death on October 23, 1995. Survivors include daughter, Deanna Kay Baker of Marion; grandson, John K. Baker; great grandson, Austin K. Baker; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; brothers, Kenneth Craig and Sammy Craig; sisters, Eva Craig, Hazel Meneese, Lela Fletcher, Juanita Buckner and Mary Strike; nephew, Raleigh Meneese, whom she gave lots of love and care to after his mother, Hazel passed away when he was just 6 weeks old. Mrs. Phillips was a 60 year member of the Pittsburg Freewill Baptist Church; until her health prevented her from attending. She retired from the Marion Memorial Hospital where she worked in clinical services. She was an avid news watcher and she loved to read. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Southern Illinois, Wanda Stroud and her daughter-in-law, Diane and her children, Brandie and Brittney and Ruth Jordan for the comfort and care given to Kathryn and Deanna Kay.
