Kay was born in Rockford, Illinois in1945 to Frances Lazarz and Dominic Clerico.
She had one sister Marianne Clerico who died at the age of 56. Kay became a gifted seamstress and pianist. In 1966 Kay met her life partner, Donnie at SIU. She took a B.S. degree in education 1975 and began teaching at Marion, John A Logan, SIU and Chester.
Later she moved to SIU Morris Library where she worked in research. At the age of 57 she retired so she and Don could travel. Her passions included motorcycle touring, canoeing, kayaking, camping, pets, antiquing and a dozen other things that caught her eye. She was especially proud of kayaking the Mississippi River from St Louis to Thebes.
She is survived by Don, of the Lake of Egypt. Son Tony and Leona of Carbondale, grandsons Riley of Murphysboro, Louis and Rudy of Carbondale. Sister -in-law Virginia Flamm of Cobden, Wilma Schaub of Carlinville and several nieces and nephews.
As per Kay’s request no formal services are planned but there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
