Judith Fosse Obituary

GOREVILLE - Judith Dodson Fosse, 84, of Goreville, passed away at 3:34 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.

Judith was born on June 21, 1940 in Danville, VA, the daughter of the late Lieutenant Colonel William Harold and Mattie Dodson. Due to her father's Air Force career, she got to see the world through her travels with the family, experiencing the cultures of China and England.

Mrs. Fosse was a 1958 graduate of Greenville High in Greenville, SC and 1962 graduate of Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia. She enjoyed a career in teaching in the Newport News, VA area after college.

Judith married James Marvin Fosse on March 29, 1969, starting the path of a family that would journey across Virginia, Australia, Alabama, Turkey, and Georgia before Colonel Fosse left active service in 1982. Judith embraced the role of an Air Force Officer's wife, playing key roles in supporting the service members and families they were assigned with, in addition to returning Prisoners of War.

Judith and Jim would settle into life in Goreville, IL after the Air Force, and live in a community next to Jim's brothers on rural land they developed together. Judith particularly loved training and riding her Arabian horses on the farm.

Her life in the Goreville area was good. She taught in the Tamms and Goreville School Districts for a number of years. After retirement, she was active in her church, First Presbyterian Church of Marion, IL and enjoyed many creative outlets but primarily quilting! She made beautiful quilts, supported the Quilts of Valor foundation, and very much enjoyed longarm quilting for customers and her quilt club.

After Jim's passing in 2013, Judith moved to the Lake of Egypt and enjoyed watching the birds and boaters from her back porch with Minx, her trusted and beloved cat. She continued her work with quilts from a new place and was active up until a brief illness before she passed.

Survivors include her sons, David Keith and family, Tia, Kyle (Partner - Lacey Dalimonte) and Paige (Husband - Greg Coppollo), and Coast Guard Rear Admiral Charles Erwin and family, Karen, Ella and Lauren; brother, Bill Dodson, and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.
