MARION-Judith Van Roekel, 84, of Marion passed away at 8:10 PM, Thursday, April 28, 2005 at Parkway Manor in Marion. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM, Monday, May 2, 2005 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Dan Whitfield officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, May 1, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Memorials may be made to the Girls Scouts of America; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mrs. Van Roekel was born on February 25, 1921 in Schenectady, New York to Carl and Emily (Hunt) Schermerhorn. She married Reverend Joseph Van Roekel on May 8, 1943 in Scotia, New York, together they shared almost 62 years of marriage. Survivors include her husband, Reverend Joseph Van Roekel of Marion; daughters and son-in-law, Carol Joy Gugert of Atlanta, Georgia, Constance Mae Novicoff of Denver, Colorado, and Bonnie Sue and David Middleton of Carterville; sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Katie Van Roekel of Hugo, Oklahoma and Clinton and Luisa Van Roekel of Springfield; ten grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and sister and brother-in-law, Eloise and Charles Oliver of Utica, New York. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Van Roekel was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marion. She was Past State President of the United Church Women, was active in the Girl Scouts as a leader and trainer and Past President of the Marion Women`s Club. She attended Hope College in Holland, Michigan. She was a very gifted seamstress and crafter. Mrs. Van Roekel was always at Reverend Van Roekel`s side in church as a organist, secretary and many other church functions
