GOREVILLE Joseph S. Foster, 91, of Goreville passed away at 2:20 PM, Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Herrin Hospital.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 6, 2010 at the Blue Funeral Home in Goreville with Reverend R.G. Null officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. Military rites will be held at the funeral home with VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard conducting the services. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Joseph was born August 1, 1919 in Goreville to Asa William and Lillie Daye (Montgomery) Foster. He married Elaine McCarty on June 3, 1944 in Oceola, Arkansas. She survives of Goreville.
Survivors include wife Elaine; son & daughter-in-law, Alan and Jan Foster; grandchildren, Michelle & Ed Brown, and Jimmy & Ashley Foster; and great-grandchild Haylee Brown.
Joseph was a member of the United States Army Air Force from 1942-1945. He was a flight engineer and a top turret gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress in the European theater of World War II. He recorded over fifty combat missions.
