John W. Burns MARION-John W. Burns, 93, of Athens, Alabama formerly of Marion passed away at 5:30 PM, Thursday, January 24, 2008 at Limestone Heart Care Center in Athens, Alabama. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 28, 2008 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Pat Driskell officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, Sunday, January 27, 2008 at the funeral home. Military rites will be held at the funeral home by VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard. Burial will be at Davis Prairie Cemetery east of Marion. Mr. Burns was born December 7, 1914 in Williamson County, Illinois to Bert and Barbara Burns. He married Hilda Anna Vogt on June 24, 1942 in Jackson, Missouri; together they shared 65 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife, Hilda of Athens, Alabama; daughter and son-in-law, Norma and James Edwards of Rogersville, Alabama; granddaughter and husband, Tammy Jean and John McArthur; great grandchild, Sean Allen McArthur; brother and sister-in-law, Ralph and Maxine Burns of Marion; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Mitchell Wayne Burns; nephew, whom they raised, William E. Kunkel; and sisters, Helen Cantrell and Barbara Burns. Mr. Burns owned and operated Burns Pest Control in Marion for several years. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II. He was a life member of the Marion VFW Post 1301. He loved to fish and spend time with his family. He will be greatly missed
