John Hearn

John “J.L.” Hearn MARION–John “J.L.” Hearn, 77, of Marion passed away at 5:04 PM, Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Herrin Hospital. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Frank Pierce and Reverend Dave Maragni officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Paulton. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Grove Cemetery Fund; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Hearn was born June 5, 1931 in Williamson County, Illinois to John and Ruby (Mandrell) Hearn. He married Wanda Lee Edwards on September 7, 1951 in Pittsburg; together they shared 56 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Lee of Marion; children, Vicky and Ron Oakley of Marion, Larry and Susan Hearn of Pittsburg, and Cathy and David Penley of Marion; grandchildren, Jeremy and Karen Oakley, Ryan and Jessica Oakley, Micah and Alisha Oakley, Jennifer and Shawn Davies, Tonya and Kyle Browning, Jamey and Andrew Rogers and Chris and Jennifer Penley; great grandchildren, Colin Oakley, Kalie Barham, Brittany Barham, Tyler Oakley, Rhyan Amber Oakley, Morrison Davies, Cooper Davies, Aden Browning, Amelia Browning, Ava Browning, Emma Claire Rogers; Jaden Marie Penley and one on the way; brother and sister-in-law, Warren and Emily Hearn of St. Charles. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, June Peterson; and brother, Robert Hearn. Mr. Hearn attended the Methodist Church in Pittsburg. He retired from the United States Federal Penitentiary after many years of service. He served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
