John J. Emery Marion- John J. Emery, 86, of Marion passed away at 2:15 AM, Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Shawnee Rose Care Center in Harrisburg, IL. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, December 13, 2010 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with Dr. Bob Dickerson officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Marion Building Fund; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL, 62959. John was born on August 11, 1924 in Makanda, IL to John & Dora (Williams) Emery. He married Gale Calvert on December 20, 1947 in Murphysboro, IL. God blessed them with 59 years of marriage until her death on October 26, 2007. He is survived his daughters, Susan Emery and Joyce & Jamie Thompson; grandchildren, Lauren Thompson and Leah & Tom Doan; great-grandchildren, Anaya Connley, Elias Connley and Tai Doan; several nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife and 10 brothers & sisters. John served in the U.S. Army during World War Two and was Honorably Discharged in 1945. He acquired and maintained a ham radio license. He was employed 25 years at GTE where he held a management position. John was a longtime member and Deacon of the First Baptist Church in Marion and enjoyed playing golf.
