John “Jack” Dudley
MARION-John “Jack” Dudley, 85, of Marion passed away at 1:35 PM, Monday, June 25, 2007 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 28, 2007 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Scott Kallem and Reverend Kenneth Fitch officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at the funeral home and from 10:00 until time of the service on Thursday morning. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard. Mr. Dudley was born January 7, 1922 in Windson, Ontario Canada to William and Ada (Fearnley) Dudley. He married Wilma Baccus on September 30, 1955 in Karnak, Illinois; the Lord blessed them with 51 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma of Marion; daughter, Jacklyn Dudley of Murray, Kentucky; and nieces, Ada Cain and Donna Robison.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah and John Baker and Martha and Jack Barnett; and nephew, Richard Baker.
Mr. Dudley worked as a coal miner for 38 years at Zeigler #3 and #4 Brushy Creek Mines. He became a United States citizen on September 22, 1964. He served with the United States Army during World War II from 1942 through 1945 in the Asiatic Pacific Theaters with the rank of sergeant. He was a life member of VFW Post #1567 in Herrin and was a volunteer with the Illinois Black Lung Association. He was a Christian. He loved to fish and hunt and was an avid St Louis Cardinal fan.
