Joel W. Hill MARION-Joel W. Hill, 56, of Marion went home to be with the Lord at 6:46 PM, Friday, April 30, 2004 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Carl Phelps and Brother Jim Jackson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, May 3, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post #1301 and American Legion Post #147. Mr. Hill was born on April 8, 1948 in Dykersburg, Illinois to Reverend Joseph William and Opal (Baker) Hill. He married Donna Reese on June 7, 1975 in Marion, Illinois and she survives. Other survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Douglas Joel and Alisha Hill of Marion; son, Ross Adam Hill of Marion; grandson, Tyler Joel William Hill; his mother, Opal Hill of Crab Orchard; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jim and Linda Hill of Marion and Tim and Debbie Hill of Crab Orchard; sister and brother-in-law, Lola and Dennis Morris of Crab Orchard; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lloyd and Joy Reese of Marion; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Doris and Jon Ward and Lisa and Van Cobb; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father. Joel was a graduate of Crab Orchard High School. He served his country in Vietnam with the Marine Corp. He was a member of Indian Camp Baptist Church. He formerly worked for Peabody Eagle Mine #2, Old Ben #25 and was presently employed by Willow Lake Mine in Equality. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He loved his work, his family and his Lord.
