Marion Joe “JH” H. Payne, 78, of Marion, went to be with his Lord at 6:15 PM on Monday, June 18, 2012 with his wife, Winnie by his side. Funeral services for J.H. will be held on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 11:00 AM in Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Glen Aulgur officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. A time of gathering for family and friends is scheduled for Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Victory Baptist Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. J.H. was born on Wednesday, November 22, 1933 in Williamson County to Alvin E. & Ethel F. (Swan) Payne. He married Winnie Beasley on Sunday, September 11, 1955 in Arnold View Church; they were about to celebrate their 57th wedding anniversary. Mr. Payne is survived by his loving wife, Winnie; children, Shelia Cannon, Melody & Chris Edmonds, Daren Payne and Randy & Marla Payne all of Marion; grandchildren, Brian & Katherine Edmonds, Megan & Jackson Van Dyke, Jacob Payne and Kristin Payne; great-grandchild, Jude Oliver Edmonds; brother, Kenneth & Dixie Payne; sisters-in-law, Sue & Alan Holmes and Verna Lee & Don Wall; brother-in-law, James Edwards and several nieces & nephews. J.H. is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin & Ethel; sister, Ruth Edwards and brother, Clarence Payne. Joe served 2 years in the United States Army, and is a proud Veteran of the Armed Forces. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Carterville and the UMWA. He raised Beagle dogs for rabbit hunting. J. H. also enjoyed fishing, camping, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and most notably helping Winnie cut out her quilt blocks. After saying goodbye to his family, J.H. told them, “Go on home, I am not alone!”
