Joe Ed Speers MARION-Joe Ed Speers, 77, of Marion passed away at 3:50 AM, Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 9, 2005 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Louis Fluck officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, September 8, 2005 at funeral home. Burial will be at Coal Bank Springs Cemetery east of Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147. Memorials may be made to Zion United Church of Christ; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Speers was born on September 9, 1927 in Bicknell, Indiana to Elsie (Harting) Coglan and Joseph J. Speers. Survivors include two daughter, Peggy Bailey and Pam Carter both of Marion; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Sherri Speers of Gardner, Kansas and Wade and Tammie Speers of Bixbey, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Lyren and Travis Bailey, Colton and Taylor Carter and Sam, Erica and Thomas Speers; son-in-law, Larry Bailey; step-granddaughter, Kelly and Will Huddleston; step-great granddaughter, Brehnn Huddleston; and cousin, Betty Irr of Port Richey, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Speers worked as an Electrical Lineman for Sullivan Electric. He served his country in the United States Navy from September 19, 1945 to September 1, 1949 during World War II. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, VFW Post 1301, Marion Elks, Marion American Legion Post 147, and IBEW Local 702. He was an avid Cardinal Baseball Fan, and he loved to hunt and fish.
