Joan Wright

Johnston City-Joan H. Wright, 79, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at her home after a six month battle with cancer. Joan was born on January 21, 1938 in Williamson County to Alva and Lorene (Miller) Handkins. She married George Wright on July 20, 1963 at Center Baptist Church in Crab Orchard.  He preceded her in death on September 3, 2008. Joan was a member of Center Baptist Church and placed her faith in Jesus when she was 10 years old. She loved to laugh and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Survivors include: Children: Kimberly and Scott Barger of Crab Orchard Teresa and Stephen Watson of Fairfax, VA Natalie and Kenneth Mitchell of Johnston City Marshall and Elisha Wright of Crab Orchard Grandchildren: Cody Barger Jared and Katie Barger Jordan Adams Rebecca and Chris Wiksten Christopher Watson Jacob Watson James Meadows Lindsey Meadows Kayla Wright Sarah Wright Jedidiah Wright Noah Wright Great grandchildren: Jace, Soloman, Damian, Cadence and Alexandria Brother-Darrel and Trina Handkins of Carterville Sister in law-Donna Handkins of Apex, NC She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; brothers, Carl Ray Handkins and Edward Handkins and three infant grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 11am Center Baptist Church in Crab Orchard with Rev. Tim Ozment officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30am until the time of service at the church.  Blue Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.
