Jerry Allen Whitehead PITTSBURG–Jerry Allen Whitehead, 65, of Pittsburg went to be with the Lord at 2:30 AM, Sunday, November 23, 2008 at St. Louis University Hospital surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Matt Troxel, Reverend Jason Jean and Reverend Jim Waggahoff officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant “Poordo” Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Whitehead was born June 14, 1943 in West Frankfort, Illinois to William A. “Bill” and Ruby (Presley) Whitehead. He married Jane Fowler on June 8, 1964 in Pittsburg; together they shared 44 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife, Jane Whitehead of Pittsburg; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Tammy Whitehead of Pittsburg, and Jared and Shelli Whitehead of Marion; daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Dayton Peebels of Pittsburg, Jodi and Matt Troxel of Stonefort, and Jamie and Shawn Parks of Marion; grandchildren, Leah Whitehead, Emily Whitehead, Brittany and Brandon Lambert, Megan Peebels, Andrea Whitehead, Mollee Whitehead, Chaise Whitehead, Chelsy Troxel, Sarah Troxel, Sadie Parks and Miki Jo Parks; father and step-mother, Bill and Lucille Whitehead of Marion; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale Whitehead, Gene and Barb Whitehead, and Jim and Joan Whitehead all of Marion; sister and brother-in-law, Gayle and Lindell Stover of Marion; sisters-in-law, Esta Mae Fowler of Pittsburg, and Peggy Fowler of Marion; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and grandson, Cody Andrew Whitehead. Mr. Whitehead was a member and deacon of Angelville Baptist Church. He retired from Freeman United Coal Company after many years of service. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local #9878. He loved farming, hunting, fishing, playing with his grandchildren, and visiting with family and friends. He was an organ donor. He was devoted to his family and to his Lord. He had big shoes that we couldn’t begin to fill, but he left us footprints to follow.
