Jenibel Powell MARION-Jenibel Powell, 98, of Marion passed away at 6:55 PM, Monday, May 7, 2007 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 10, 2007 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend John Howat officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 until 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 10, 2007 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Simmons Cemetery, east of Creal Springs. Mrs. Powell was born December 30, 1908 in Carbondale, Illinois to Reverend Elvis and Martha Katherine (Gibbs) Laney. She married Robert Cecil Powell on October 10, 1929 in Palzo, Illinois; he preceded her in death in 1961. Survivors include sister, Frances Deaton Jourdan of Marion; grandson, Jeff Wells; and great granddaughters, Amy, Jennifer, Heather and Candice. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Katherine Wells; granddaughter, Mary Houston; great grandson, Bryce Houston; brother, Harold Laney; and sister, Eva Nicholson. Mrs. Powell was a member of Cana Baptist Church in Creal Springs. She was a homemaker. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine.
