Jeanette Lynn Jan Griffin- Marion Illinois
Jeanette L. Jan Griffin, 70, of Marion, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at 3:30p.m Saturday September 10, 2011 at her sons home in Marion.
Jeanette was born on December 11, 1940 in Wayne City, Illinois, the daughter of Gale and Kathleen (McRill) Riley. She married William E. Griffin in December 1965. He preceded her in death in January 1995.
Jeanette graduated from Deaconess School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri in 1961, where she began her lifelong journey of caring for others. Hired in 1963, Jeanette spent 43 years as a Registered Nurse at Herrin Hospital, including many years as a delivery nurse in obstetrics and two decades as the House Supervisor. She retired in 2006. In her time at the hospital, she saw countless new lives begin and held the hands of so many in their final days. As a servant to others, she left her heart and soul in her work, always putting patient care and dignity first. Beyond her nursing career, Jeanette was devoted to caring for others and providing comfort for friends, family, and anyone in need.
Jeanette was a devout and faithful Christian, and a long time member of the First Christian Church- Disciples of Christ on Marion.
Jeanette is survived by her loving children, son David Griffin (Lucy) and daughter Stephanie Griffin, both of Marion. She is also survived by her dear grandchildren, Jacob Griffin and Joshua Griffin, whom she cherished spending time with over the past years of her life. She is also survived by a dear brother in law James Griffin and wife Deloris, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Barbara Riley, and two nieces.
Jeanette was the most devoted, loving mother and grandmother. She cherished the time she spent following the activities of her grandsons, especially attending their baseball games. And she was always delighted to hear the boys call for their Nana. She has gone to her Lord, taking a piece of their hearts with her.
Visitation for family and friends will be 5-8pm, Tuesday, September 13 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 14 at 11am at 1st Christian Church, 310 N. Market in Marion, with Rev. Bill Rucker presiding. There will be an hours visitation from 10-11am before the service. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion.
