Marion- Janet Brown, 66, of Marion, died at 2:00 AM, Friday, August 3, 2018 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Mattoon.
Janet was born on April 11, 1952 in East Moline to Gordon Ellsworth and Naomi (Hornick) Smith. She was raised by her loving grandmother- May Hornick. She married Douglas Brown on December 26, 1968 by the Justice of the Peace at Benton Courthouse.
Her life was dedicated to caring for others. She worked many long hours as a registered nurse for area nursing homes, hospitals and doctors’ offices. Even recently she filled in when needed at local nursing facilities. She taught in the nursing program at John A Logan College in Carterville.
Janet was a wonderful lady. She was a faithful Christian and prayer warrior who read her Bible and prayed daily for those in need. She was a kindhearted woman who practiced what she preached and “took in” many children who needed food and direction. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her lasagna. In her spare time she liked to spend time with her family and travel to different destinations.

Daughter- Michelle Clark and husband Randy of Pittsburg
Son- Chris Brown and wife Kristin of Mattoon

K.C. Sapp and husband Chris, Brockton Brown, Kiegan Rix, Everly Brown, Tyler Smith and wife Abby, Tyson Smith, SSgts. Maci Elliott and husband Stephen, Cody Clark, Cailey Clark, Justin Clark, Adrianne Bleyer, Landon Brown and Loralei Brown
Great Granddaughter- Emma Jo Smith
Brothers- Mike Smith of Pittsburg and Kelly Smith and wife Stacy of Marion
Several nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved grandmother, her sister- Diane and brothers- Clarence “Corky”, Donny, and Leonard Smith. She also lost one brother to an accident- Dale Smith.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, August 13, 2018 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Rev. Eddie Donelson will officiate. Burial will follow. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.
