James Wendell Thompson
MARION-James Wendell Thompson, 80, of Marion passed away at 6:25 AM, Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Parkway Manor in Marion.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 29, 2010 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Bill Rucker officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Harrisburg.
James was born January 9, 1930 in Harrisburg to William Harvey and Katie (Fraser) Thompson. He married Phyllis Bryan on March 16, 1951 in Stonefort; together they shared 59 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Thompson of Marion; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Tina Thompson of Pittsburg and James Ricky and Ruth Thompson of Port Orchard, Washington; grandchildren, DiAnna Kemp, Luciana King, Darcie Thompson, Doug Thompson, Chris Thompson, Megan Owens, Miranda Thomas, Kasey Thomas, Adrina Thomas, Sally Klien, William Bucky Klien, Jason Goetz, John Corcoran and Jan-Michael Corcoran; fourteen great grandchildren; sister, Jean Ratley of Newton, Kansas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bud and Pat Edwards of Shelbyville, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
James worked as a coal miner and a truck driver. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He served his country with the United States Air Force. He enjoyed repairing lawnmowers and spending time in his swing in the backyard.
