James William "Bill" Starnes

James William "Bill" Starnes, age 75, of Creal Springs, Illinois,  passed away Thursday, May 4, 2023 in Paducah, Kentucky.

Bill was born January 15, 1948 in Marion, Illinois, a son of James and Wanda (Beasley) Starnes. He married Theresa L. Wingerter on July 23, 1995  in Paducah, KY.  Bill grew up in rural Crab Orchard and graduated Crab Orchard High School.  He farmed and worked construction before going to the coal mines.  He worked at several area mines, but retired from Brushy Creek Mine.  Bill loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, coon hunting, and raising horses and mules.  He was a member of UMWA.  

He is survived by his wife Theresa L. Starnes of Creal Springs, IL; one son, Jim L. (Lupa) Starnes of Marion, IL, and step daughters Shana Harner of Ozark, IL, and Brandy (Rick) Johnson of Carbondale, IL; one granddaughter, Hanna C. Starnes; and two siblings, Gayla (Tom) Dugan of Creal Springs, IL and Gordon Starnes of Harrisburg, IL.  He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Wanda Starnes and three siblings, Rhonda Starnes, Mike Starnes, and Greg Starnes.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 10, 2023, 10:00 AM at Murdale Gardens Cemetery in Murphysboro, IL,  with Rev. Chris Cutsinger officiating.
