James Nicholson

Marion- James E. Nicholson, 74, of Marion, passed away at 3:00 PM, Sunday, January 12, 2014 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. James was born on September 17, 1939 in Pope County, IL to Earl and Katherine (Manson) Nicholson.  He married Jo Ann Springhart on July 2, 1961 in Goreville.  She survives of Marion. Mr. Nicholson was retired, having worked for 32 years as a route salesman for Hostess and then another 5 years as a route salesman for Sara Lee.  He developed many friendships along the way. He was a Baptist who enjoyed spending time with his family and attending the activities of his grandkids.  He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elks Foundation, the North American Hunting Club and the North American Fishing Club.  He was an avid hunter of quail and enjoyed hunting Elk in Colorado. Survivors include- Wife- JoAnn Nicholson of Marion Daughter- Dana Marlow and husband Doug of Marion Daughter- Janna Rasmussen of Marion Son- Jimmy Nicholson and wife Lisa of Marion Four grandchildren:                 Dustin Whitehead of Marion                 David Whitehead and wife Rachel of Ft. Benning, GA                 Leslie Nicholson of Marion                 Wyatt Nicholson of Marion Four great grandchildren:                 Landon Whitehead of Marion                 London Whitehead of Marion                 Laila Whitehead of Marion                 Olivia Whitehead of Ft. Benning, GA Sister- Mary Louise McClain of Texas City, TX Sister- Terry Young and husband Jerry of Hitchcock, TX Several nieces and nephews Close friends- Roger and Linda Burton of  Marion He was preceded in death by his parents, brother- George Earl Nicholson and granddaughter- Christine Whitehead. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.  Rev. Derek Shaw will officiate.  Burial will follow at Coal Bank Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until time of service, Wednesday at the funeral home.
