James D. "Jimmy" Askew

Marion- James Delbert “Jimmy” Askew, age 65, of Marion, passed away at 8:40am on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at his home in Marion.

James was born in Peoria on October 11, 1955, the son of the late Delbert and Lillie (Burke) Askew.  He married Peggy Hodge of December 27, 1971 and they were married until her death in 1997.  Together they had one child, Ashley Askew.  She survives along with her fiancé, Josh Campos and their children, Kalaina and Adelaide.  He was so proud to be a grandpa.

He married Patsy Christine Holland in Marion on June 10, 2001. Together, they have shared almost 20 years of marriage. With this union he became a step father to David and Denise Norris and step grandpa to David and Dylan Norris.  He was preceded in death by his step daughter, Lisa Norris.

Jimmy is a beloved brother to:

Sister- Mary and Bob Zimbelman of Bartonville

Sister- Linda and Bill Clay of Herrin

Sister- Lori and Scott Allen of O’Fallon, MO

Brother- Mitchell and Georgeanne Askew of Houston, TX

Sister- Debra and Jim Shipley of Cypress

And beloved loyal companion-“Chloe May”

He was preceded in death by those mentioned above along with his beloved nephews, Bobby Zimbelman and Paul Askew.

Jimmy was a very intelligent man.  Quick witted and keeper of facts and trivia.  His math skills were off the charts.  His intellect was only matched by his ability to socialize.  He was as generous with his heart as with his time.  Jimmy would not only give you the shirt off his back but make sure you had a coat and shoes! His social abilities led to his many club memberships in the community.  He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and was a Mason.  In his youth, he played baseball and softball and was a great first baseman.  Jimmy loved to talk St. Louis Cardinals with his mom.  While everyone is at his visitation and service, he and his mom with be talking baseball.

Funeral services will be held at 10am on Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Andy Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. A time of visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.
