Jama King
MARION-Jama King, 52, of Marion passed away at 10:48 AM, Monday, December 4, 2006 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion with her family by her side. Jama fought a long battle with small cell cancer.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 9, 2006 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Ralph Brandon officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, December 8, 2006 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton, next to her sister, Susan.
Jama and family have requested that memorials be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, who can never be thanked enough for the love and care shown to Jama and her family. Jama was born November 11, 1954 in Benton, Illinois to James and Mary (McMillan) OâHara. She married Steven King on August 12, 1983 and together they shared 23 years of marriage.
Survivors include her husband Steven of Marion; son, Quinton King of Marion; daughter, Sara Phillips of Herrin; her parents, James and Mary OâHara of the Lake of Egypt; brother and sister-in-law, James and Angie OâHara of Johnston City; mother-in-law, Aletha King of Marion; brothers-in-law, Mike King of Marion, Earl King of Bluford and Bryan King of Korea; aunt and uncle, Mary Jean and Clarence DeMattei of Marion; her DeMattei cousins who kept her in flowers while she was ill; many nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Becky Jack who stayed by her and her familyâs side throughout her illness.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Susan OâHara.
Jama was a member Union Jack Chapter-ABATE of Illinois and UFCW Local 881. She worked at Krogerâs in Marion from 1978 through 2000 when she retired due to her health. Jama was very proud of her job and always worked as hard as the guys. She had lived in Eagle Point Bay at the Lake of Egypt for many years and had moved to Marion a year ago.
Jama was baptized on October 28 at Lick Creek by Brother Ken Wilson. She was a member of Lick Creek United Missionary Baptist Church and had been attending Christian Covenant Fellowship in Carterville since her move to Marion. She had set a goal for her son, Quinton to attend Unity Christian School where he is being taught from the bible and praying in school is required.
Until her health failed Jama loved to ride Harleyâs with her husband. They rode many miles together with friends. She loved to do charity events with ABATE and was one of the early members to organize the Easter Run. She looked forward to the Daytona Bike Week in the 80âs and early 90âs. Jama also liked to boat and fish on the Lake of Egypt.
Jama will be missed by all who knew her. She knew as a Reborn Christian she would go to her heavenly home. Her corneas were donated and two people gained their sight from our loss.
