MARION -- Jackie Dean "Jack" Tanner, 79, formerly of northwest Indiana, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, in Herrin Hospital.
Jack was born Feb. 22, 1934, in Dykersburg to Troy and Marbye (Mounce) Tanner. He married Diane Felts on Feb. 13, 1960, at Assembly of God in Creal Springs. She survives of Marion.
Jack worked for 43 years as a weigh master for LTV Steel in East Chicago, Ind., until his retirement in 1996.
After retirement, Jack and Diane moved back to South-ern Illinois.
He was an active member of Creal Springs Assembly of God and served as deacon there.
He enjoyed reading mystery and Western novels, classic cars and travelling to places out west with his family when he was able. Recently he enjoyed the social aspects of going to cardiac rehabilitation at Heartland Regional Medical Center and the care received from the staff.
Survivors include wife, Diane Tanner of Marion; daughter, Susan Tanner and husband, Furman Wallace, of Anderson, Ind.; and son, Jeffery Tanner and wife, Nancy, of Valparaiso, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, in Blue Funeral Home with Brother Roy Baker officiating. Burial will be in Creal Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 10, at the funeral home.
