Jack R. Samples MARION-Jack R. Samples, 61, of Marion passed away at 9:25 AM, Sunday, July 23, 2006 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM, Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion anyone wishing to share stories or thoughts about Jack may do so during the service. Visitation will be from 12:30 until 2:30 PM, Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by Marion VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147. Memorials may be made to Community Affairs at the VA Medical Center; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Samples was born May 13, 1945 in Herrin, Illinois to Charles R. and Lula Mae (Cook) Samples. He was married Gloria Hill on June 22, 1976 in Shawneetown, Illinois, together they shared 30 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife, Gloria of Marion; son, Shane Samples of Marion; daughter and son-in-law, Misti and Larry Orr, Jr., of Marion; son, Charles L. Samples of Marion; grandchildren, Emily and Corbin Orr, Dylan Samples and Dakota McLaren; sister, Linda Glenn of Jonesboro; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Terry Lee Samples and Charles Ray Samples. Mr. Samples was the superintendent of the Marion Water Department for 20 years. He served his country in the United States Army. He was an avid Cardinal Baseball Fan. He loved his family very much and will be missed by all.
