Jack Hayse BENTON-Jack Hayse, 84, of Benton passed away at 9:00 AM, Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Michael Neubert officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Masonic & Oddfellows Cemetery in Benton, IL. Military Rights will be given at the cemetery by the VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147, and the National Guard. Memorials may be made to VFW & American Legion Ritual Teams; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Hayse was born September 1, 1923 in Benton, Illinois to Frank Hayse and Vada (Fisher) Hayse. He married Martha Jane McAfoos and she preceded him in death on January 12, 1972. He was remarried to Grace Rohn and she passed away in September, 1982. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn & Steve Chapman of Carterville, daughter and son-in-law, Jane & Floyd Reed of Marion; Grandchildren, Alexandria Reed, Meghan Reed, Brooke Reed; Brother, Bill & Irene Hayse of Chicago Heights. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wives. Mr. Hayse was a retired school teacher and coach at Gibson City High School in Gibson City, IL, and Thornton High in Harvey, IL. He was a graduate of Benton High School, graduate of Southern Illinois University, as well as the University Of Illinois with a master’s degree. He was an all-state athlete in track in field and was a member of the SIU gymnastics and track team. Mr. Hayse resided in Hot Springs Village, Ark, where he was able to play a lot of golf, a sport that he loved. He fought in WWII and the Korean Conflict as a fighter pilot and was awarded a purple heart. Mr. Hayse enjoyed retirement to the fullest.
