MARION- J. Addison Abe Roberts, 83, of Marion passed away at 5:38 PM, Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 9, 2009 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Bill Rucker officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, October 8, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Hill in Marion. Addison was born February 21, 1926 in Williamson County to Elmer Oren and Ruby Laura (Skaggs) Roberts. He married Mary Lou Bethel-Tyner in 1950; together they shared over 59 years of marriage and together they raised their three children.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou of Marion; son and daughter-in-law, Addison Len and Robin Roberts of Marion; daughter, Belinda Sue Ledbetter of Moab, Utah; daughter-in-law, Carol Tyner of Marion; grandchildren, Angela and Dave Cronin of West Frankfort, Aleah and Brandon White, of Marion, Charissa Ledbetter of Seaside, California, Tricia and Chad Bailey and Tammy and Eddie Holland all of Goreville; and great grandchildren, Emma McLaskey, Mariah White, Ethan White, Jamie Bailey, Dylan Bailey, Katelyn Bailey, Paige Holland, Sarah Grace Holland ad Ryan Holland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bruce Tyner; brother, Lawrence Roberts; and sister, Loarine Hauschild.
Addison graduated from Thorn Thicket Grade School and Marion Township High School. He worked as a dozer operator before honorably serving his country with the United States Army in Japan. He worked for 39 years for Amax Coal, retiring in 1991 as a rolling stock supervisor at the local mine. Together he and his wife, Mary Lou developed Edgewood and Roberts Subdivisions in Marion. He was a member of Marion First Baptist Church since 1950 and attended regularly until health no longer permitted. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 89 AF & AM serving as Worshipful Master in 1963.
