MARION-Hubert L. Benedict, 75, of Marion passed away at 10:05 PM, Sunday, April 15, 2007 at his home.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 19, 2007 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Jason Jean and Reverend John Howat officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at the funeral home. Burial will be at McKinney Chapel Cemetery, south of Marion. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Angelville Community Church building fund; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.
Mr. Benedict was born on November 2, 1931 in Herrin to Earl O. and Myrtle (Brookhouse) Benedict. He married Vera McCormick on December 16, 1955 in New Haven, Indiana; together they shared 51 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Vera of Marion; daughter and son-in-law, Linda C. and Robert Dick of Marion; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith A. and Polianna Benedict of Marion, Ricky L. and Gaye Benedict of Pittsburg and William E. Benedict of Michigan; grandchildren, Justin and Alicia Elders, Jason and Stormie Elders, Thomas Benedict, Whitney Benedict, Kristina Benedict, Jesse Benedict, Sarah Elders, Bradley Robinson and Riane Dick; great grandchildren, Dyan Elders and Summerlee Elders; brother, John Benedict; favorite cousin, Della Jane Burklow; and cousins, Debra Sue, Donald, David, Sheila & Cheryl.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Lee Benedict; granddaughter, Destiny; and R. J. Gower, who he thought of as a brother.
Mr. Benedict felt really blessed to be able to attend Angelville Community Church, but just wasnât able to go as much as he would have liked. He formerly owned Farmers Produce in Marion, worked as a fireman for the City of Marion and the Veterans Administration Hospital and was a butcher a Smalls Food Store. He was a member and past Master of the Marion Masonic Lodge 89 AF & AM.
He loved spending time with his family and friends, watching Cardinal Baseball, fishing, and sitting on the back porch drinking his coffee and watching birds. He looked forward to Saturday nights for country singing and the Big Joe Polka Show.
