Homer Lee Robinson, 87, of Marion, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 27, 1937, in Creal Springs, Illinois, the son of James Homer Robinson and Delliah Lavern (Campbell) Robinson.
Homer shared a remarkable 68 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Etta, whom he wed on November 15, 1956. Together, they built a legacy of love, hard work, and devotion that will be cherished by their family and friends forever.
A dedicated employee, Homer worked tirelessly for the City of Marion’s Street Department for over 29 years, where he served as a laborer. Known for his strength and resilience, he took great pride in maintaining his fitness throughout his life. Homer’s daily exercise routine was a testament to his commitment; he would lift half a concrete block overhead 60 times, three times a day, and faithfully ran a block in his neighborhood every day.
Homer was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who adored spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren. His love and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was an active member of Warder Street Baptist Church until its closing and a proud member of the Teamsters, always eager to lend a helping hand to his friends and community.
Homer is survived by his wife, Etta; his children, Ron and Connie Robinson, Stacy Robinson, (Angi Christensen), Maelinda and Kevin Pierce, and Michael and Michelle Robinson; his stepmother Velma Robinson and stepsister Brenda. He was also a cherished grandfather to Ronnie and Lisa Robinson, Jennifer Robinson, Kristina Robinson, Christopher and Sarah Robinson, Darell Lynn, and Jennifer Robinson, and Dana and Mike Baxter, Brandon Robinson, Shawn and Danielle Robinson, Cody Robinson, Keshia and Trevor Fitch, Patton Bradley, Payton and Nun Bradley, several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, brother James Robinson along with other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Darell Ray Robinson, brother Kenneth Robinson, sisters-in-law Melba Robinson and Carolyn Robinson and Wanda Robinson.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with Blue Funeral Home under the direction of Binkley-Ross. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 21, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Blue Funeral Home located at 1704 North Court Street. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Darrell Wimberly officiating. An additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the start of the funeral.
Homer’s steadfast dedication, love for his family, and unwavering spirit will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered. His life serves as an inspiration to all, leaving a legacy of strength, kindness, and unwavering love.
