Creal Springs-Hollie “Poncho” Tanner, 78, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2016 at Fountains in Marion with his family by his side.
Poncho was born in Creal Springs on October 27, 1937 to Hollie and Elsie (Davis) Tanner. He married Helen Smith in November 1965. She preceded him in death.
Poncho was a member of the American Legion Post 147, Stonefort Masonic Lodge 495 and this past May became a deacon with the First Baptist Church of Creal Springs. Poncho loved old cars. He could spot an old car frame tucked away in a barn from a mile away. Poncho also enjoyed running and operating heavy equipment and aviation. He will be remembered for his humor, his helping hand to the church and community and his model A “The Board”
Poncho is survived by his children, Chris Travelstead of Goreville; Michael Tanner of Creal Springs; Donnie Tanner of Creal Springs and Christy and Barry Holmes. Four grandchildren, April; Ashley; Courtney; Brianna and six great grandchildren. Sister, Irene Horn and brother and sister in law, Harold and Joan Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen and brothers, Lindell Tanner and James Tanner.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at 11am at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Alan Summers, Rev. Peter J. Slivinski and Bob Gulledge officiating. Masonic Rites will be performed by the Stonefort Masonic Lodge 495. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the American Legion Post 147 with assistance from the National Guard. Visitation will be on Monday, August 1, 2016 from 5pm-8pm at the funeral home.
