Helen Pate Finney MARION-Helen Pate Finney passed away August 31, 2005 at 6:40 AM in Herrin Hospital with her daughter and granddaughter at her side and her presence in the minds of all who loved her. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM, Friday, September 2, 2005 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:30 PM, Friday, September 2, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Marion. Memorials may be made to Shawnee Christian Nursing Home or Herrin Hospital Auxiliary; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mrs. Finney was born on May 3, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri to Herman and Gertrude (Carter) Gutting. She married Carl Pate in 1942 and together they raised three children, Bill, Kathy and Mike. She supported him in the home and in his business ventures. They enjoyed annual trips to Florida and many fun family outings with his brothers and sisters and their families. She remained with him until his death in 1985. Although she had caught his eye much earlier, she finally met her soul mate, Max Finney, in early 1991 and from that moment on they enjoyed life together until his untimely death in July 1992. Having been unconditionally accepted by Max and his family, she remained close to them after his death, and enjoyed years of family yard sales, `boat trips`, pinochle games and too many lunches and dinners out to count. She was an active member of Zion United Church of Christ and a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Carl Oral Pate; her second husband, Max Finney; son, Carl William Pate; sister, Suzie; and brother, Frank. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and James Halstead ; son Mike Pate; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Tommy, John, Danny and Reanna Pate, Mike, Mindy, Elizabeth and Zachary Tripp, Chris, Lisa, Elysia and C. J. Moak, Sara and Carly Pate and Molly Pate; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Marvelene Pate, Kenneth and Pat Pate, J.B. and Evelyn Kuykendall, Dale and Marion Pate, Jack Finney, Pauline Jones, Barbara Beasley, Jim and Caveness Finney, Beryl Pepin and Barbara Finney. She will also be sorely missed by her circle of friends at the Zion United Church of Christ. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Herrin Hospital for all their support in the last weeks of Helen`s life, without it they would have been lost.
