Guy Stilley, Jr.
MARION-Guy Stilley, Jr., 84, of Decatur formerly of Marion passed away at 5:03 AM, Saturday, February 10, 2007 at Decatur Memorial in Decatur, Illinois. He formerly resided in East Gary, Indiana for about 35 years, after retirement he moved to Marion and lived there for 28 years. For the past 7 years he lived in Decatur.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Monday, February 12, 2007 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery with Marion VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147 conducting the services.
Mr. Stilley was born on August 22, 1922 in Marion, Illinois to Guy and Mary Frances (Fulkerson) Stilley. He married Ruby Tanner in 1948 in Marion; he later married Ruth McGinnis Vaughan on October 18, 1975 in Gary, Indiana; she preceded him in death on April 23, 2004.
Survivors include his children, Dennis and Ruth Stilley of Zeeland, Michigan, Jerry and Sue Stilley of Portage, Indiana, Bradley Stilley of Houston, Texas and Steven Stilley of Chesterton, Indiana; step-children, Judith and Jerry Newberry of Decatur, Jeannette and John Loughran of Hebron, Indiana and Daniel and Shirley Vaughan of Bloomfield, Indiana; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brothers and sister-in-law, Carl Stilley and Charles and Carol Stilley all of Marion; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnie Fuller of Marion, Hazel and Bill Finn of Huntsville, Alabama and Leesa and John Grant of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Floyd Stilley and James Stilley; sister, Velma Castelano; and one grandson.
Mr. Stilley retired from U. S. Steel in Gary, Indiana after 30 years of service in the Sheet and Tin Department. He served his country with the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer in Europe during World War II. He loved history, gardening and woodworking. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a big kind heart. He was very much loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
