Gus Laverne Johnson MARION-Gus Laverne Johnson, 72, of Marion passed away at 8:30 AM, Monday 12, 2008 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Brother Tommy Monroe officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Coal Bank Springs Cemetery, east of Marion. Mr. Johnson was born October 12, 1935 in Johnson County, Illinois to Woodrow and Cleta (Dotson) Johnson. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Jackie Johnson of Missouri; daughter, Selena Hancock of Pittsburg; son, Richard Johnson of Herrin; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Steve Childress of Herrin; fifteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Melody Johnson of Stonefort and special friend, Renee Blackford. He was preceded in death by his parents; three grandchildren; two brothers and one sister. Mr. Johnson was a drywall hanger in the area for several years. He was a member of the Carpenters Union for several years.
