Gregory Eastman

MARION - Greg was born Thursday, April 28, 1955, in Marion, to Earl and Lucille (Thorpe) Eastman. He passed away peacefully at 4:18 a.m. March 13, 2013, at home. Greg worked in several gas stations in the area as well as at Bud's and WalMart. Most recently, he worked for the Marion Daily newspaper. He was a hard worker and made many friends along the way. Greg was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Virgil Robertson and his close friend, John Heyde, who he considered a brother. He is survived by his wife, Linda Eastman of Johnston City; mother-in-law, Ruth Robertson of Marion; sons, Jason (and wife, Samantha) and Matthew Eastman (and partner, Kelly Knight) of Marion; daughters, Sage Banks of Herrin and Rebecca Eastman (and partner, Robert Rich) of Marion; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren and many friends. Greg attended the Community Chapel church in Marion and had a strong Christian faith. He was an avid reader, particularly about things of a historical nature, making him everyone's favorite trivia partner. He loved attending encampments and civil war reenactments. He also enjoyed riding motor cycles and participating in several poker runs for various charities. Services will be at noon Friday, March 15, in Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Don Colson presiding. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery-Poordo in Paulton. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Societyor to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available during services or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, P.O. Box 411, Marion, IL, 62959.
