George Ray Cash

George Ray Cash MARION–George Ray Cash, 92, of Marion passed away at 9:52 PM, Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Herrin Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, October 13, 2008 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with his nephew, Mike Cash officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Cash was born on August 26, 1916 in Marion to Ira and Pearl (Hudgens) Cash. He married Ruth Hill on June 7, 1941 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee; she preceded him in death on March 9, 2008. Survivors include son, Dale Cash of Sleepy Hollow; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Joy Cash of Benton; and nieces and nephews, Dorothy Nordmeyer, Richard Cash, Penny Antonini, Carol Bethel, Danny Cash, Carla McClendon, Mike Cash and Roger Cash. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; daughter-in-law, Nancy Cash; brothers, Robert, James, Ralph, Wayne and Raleigh Cash; and nephews, Bob Ray Cash and Carl Cash. Mr. Cash was a member of Parish Park Baptist Church and formerly a member of Third Baptist Church. He worked for Blankenship Auto Supply and Kimmel Auto Supply retiring after many years. He served his country with the United States Army in the South Pacific during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart for serious wounds suffered at the Battle for Guadalcanal.
