MARIONGeorge R. Snyder, 85, of Marion passed away at 6:26 PM, Saturday, August 9, 2008 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend John Burnett officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. Mr. Snyder was born March 4, 1923 in Elkville, Illinois to Robert Lee and Emma (Rosenberger) Snyder. He married Maxine Farmer on February 12, 1949; she preceded him in death on January 26, 2003.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Les Boomer and Bonnie Snyder of Marion and Lieutenant Colonel Bob and Diane Snyder of Biloxi, Mississippi; grandchildren, Christopher Snyder and fiancé, Marci Skelcher, Rob and Jaime Snyder, Andrew and Tami Snyder, Mark and Theresa Snyder, Mike and Sara Snyder, and Brittany Snyder; great grandchildren, Ryan Snyder, Derrick Snyder, Landon Snyder, Trevor Snyder, Caleb Snyder, Colton Snyder, Casey Snyder and Chase Snyder is on the way; sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Moreton Shively; and sister-in-law, Mary Jordan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; sisters, Wilma Barwick, Gerry Throgmorton and Ethel Rosenberger; and brother, Carl Snyder.
Mr. Snyder was a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle in Marion where he had served previously as a superintendent and deacon. He retired from General Telephone Company after many years of service. He loved playing cards and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.
His family was an important part of his life. He was well loved and will be missed by all.
