George Melvin Robertson

George Melvin Robertson MARION-George Melvin Robertson, 80, of Marion passed away at 3:50 PM, Sunday, September 11, 2005 at Parkway Manor in Marion. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Dr. Paul Langan officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Odd fellows Cemetery, Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147. Mr. Robertson was born on December 12, 1924 in Pittsburg, Illinois to George W. and Amanda E. (Wolverton) Robertson. Survivors include sister, Sylvia Dascotte of Marion; brothers, James Wesley Robertson of Marion, Kenneth E. Robertson of Paris, Tennessee, and Leamon L. Robertson of Johnston City; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Christina M. Robertson and Faye Robertson; and brothers, Virgil Robertson and Eugene Robertson. Mr. Robertson was a member of Warder Street Baptist Church in Marion, where he sang in the church choir. He attended Southern Illinois University and received his teaching degree. He previously had taught at Crab Orchard, Boyd, Prosperity, and Algonquin Junior High and taught and coached in Des Plaines. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Robertson was one of the `coffee drinkers` at Pulley`s. He was an avid Cubs Fan.
