Geneva Brown Marion – Geneva Brown, loving wife, mother & grandmother, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 1:45 AM on Wednesday, December 29, 2010. She was 87 years old. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 31, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Ralph Brandon officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 30, 2010 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion, IL. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois; envelopes are available during the services or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL, 62959. Geneva was born on August 2, 1923 in Marion, IL to William & Daisy (Adams) Shadowens. She married James A. Brown on December 27, 1942 in Cape Girardeau, MO; they shared 68 years together. She is survived by her loving husband, James; daughter, Dianna & William Merrow of Marion; sons, James D. & Karen Brown of Mississippi and Danny W. & Tonya Brown of West Virginia; grandchildren, Ronald Merrow, Michael Merrow, Becky Redd, Jason Brown, Brian Brown, Nathan Brown and Kelley Trout; sixteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Geneva was preceded in death by her parents, William and Daisy Shadowens; sisters, Velma Shadowens and Marie “Johnny” Kennedy and one brother, Elvin Shadowens. Geneva was a longtime member of the Scottsboro Church of God. She will be remembered as a faithful and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Giving all of herself to her family, she spent the majority of her life raising, loving and teaching life lessons to her three children and passing on that same dedication to her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
