Marion- Eugene Stanley “Gene” Cherim, 95, of Marion, passed away at 12:45 PM, Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Gene was born on June 27, 1923 in Chicago to Pasho and Martha (Kobus) Cherimagich. He married Dolores Bialczak on November 12, 1955 in Chicago. She preceded him in death on February 2, 2015.
Gene served his country bravely aboard the USS Caswell during WWII while enlisted in the United States Navy. Once honorably discharged, he returned home and eventually found employment as the Foreman at Dudek and Bock spring manufacturing company in Chicago. He worked there for forty years until his retirement.
He was catholic and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling and going to garage sales and flea markets. He was a Bears fan and once caught a field goal while in the stands during a game. He loved his family and especially had a soft spot for dogs and cats.

Many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and 8 brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elmwood, Illinois. Military rites will be performed at graveside by members of the United States Navy Honor Guard. Memorial services were arranged at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.
