Gary Wayne Johnson

Goreville-Gary Wayne Johnson, 67, passed away at 12:20pm on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in Marion. Gary was born on January 12, 1947 in Jacksonville, IL to Harold and Virginia (Short) Johnson. He married Carolyn Carmody on March 23, 1974 in Jacksonville, IL. She survives of Goreville. Gary was a long standing member of the US Army and IL National Guard and fought in Desert Storm. He retired from the IL State Highway Dept. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his Harley. He will be missed by all. Survivors include: Wife-Carolyn Johnson of Goreville Children: Brian Keith Johnson of Florida Sarah Johnson of Jacksonville, IL Step son-Scott Elliott of Springdale, AR Mother-Virginia Johnson of Jacksonville, IL Eight grandchildren Sisters: Barb Tippy of Jacksonville, IL Shirley Clifton and husband Russell of Desoto, MO Carol Daniels of Jacksonville, IL Brother-Ty Johnson and wife Kathy of Jacksonville, IL He was preceded in death by his father and sister, Joyce Johnson The family will have a memorial mass at 11am on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at St. Paul Catholic Church/2020 State Highway 146/ Vienna with Father Tom Barrett officiating. Visitation will also be on Saturday from 10am until the time of service at the church. Burial will be held at a later time. Blue Funeral Home in Goreville is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial donations are suggested to the SIH Cancer Foundation and will be accepted at Blue Funeral Home/ PO Box 411/ Marion, IL 62959.
