MARIONGary R. Evetts, 63, of Marion passed away at 6:06 PM, Saturday, September 19, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Edward Shorty Alsip officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the family; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.
Gary was born July 10, 1946 in Palzo to Howard and Opal (Segers) Evetts. He married Linda Marks; she preceded him in death. He later married Mary Kay Hill on October 11, 1985 in Marion; together they shared 23 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Kay of Marion; children, Andria Lott of Goreville, Angie Smith of Creal Springs, Garyla and Brian Miller of Herrin, Chris and Teressa Evetts and Destry Evetts all of Creal Springs, Benjamin Duvall, Andy Duvall and Lucas Duvall all of Marion; sixteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Liz Evetts, Larry and Sharon Evetts and Randy and Debra Evetts all of Creal Springs and Rudy and Sue Evetts of Ozark; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Gene Edwards of Creal Springs; and special friends, Jemmia and Chuck Coleman and family, Sharon Blades, and the Brothers of the Storm Riders.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jessie Evetts; brother, Ronald Evetts; and sister, Betty June Tanner.
Gary worked as a coal miner for Peabody Eagle Mine #2. He was a member of the UMWA, VFW Mens Auxiliary in Creal Springs, Sons of the American Legion, and the Marion Eagles.
