Gary Dickinson MARION-Gary Dickinson, 58, of Marion passed away at 10:10 AM, Sunday, April 25, 2010 at the V.A. Nursing Home in Marion. Funeral services will be at 4:00 PM, Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Blue Funeral Home with family and friends conducting the service. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Military rites will be held at the funeral home by VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147, and the National Guard. Gary was born November 10, 1951 in Chicago to Robert H. and Florenz (Henry) Dickinson. Survivors include his son, Gary Dickinson, Jr. of Hanover Park; daughter, Sandra Marie Mecklenburg of Downers Grove; girlfriend and best friend, Vickie Boyt-Blandford of Marion; grandchildren, Marco and Alexandra; brother, Robert H. Dickinson, Jr. and wife, Harleen of Tennessee; and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents. Gary served his country and was a decorated combat veteran with the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War. In his early years he trained horses, in later years he worked as a martial arts instructor, a private investigator and a corporation businessman. He was a member of VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147, and the Elks Lodge #800. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
