MARION-Floyd E. Strobel, 78, of Marion passed away at 9:32 AM, Wednesday, July 7, 2004 at Parkway Manor, Marion. Funeral services will held at 2:00 PM, Friday, July 9, 2004 at the Blue Funeral Home, Marion with Dr. Joey Brent officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 PM, Friday, July 9, 2004 at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post #1301 and American Legion Post #147. Memorials may be made to Marion First Baptist Church Building Fund; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Strobel was born on August 4, 1925 in Williamson County, Illinois to Orville and Edith (Dodd) Strobel. He married Floella Watson on March 2, 1951 at Scottsboro Baptist Church in Marion, she preceded him in death on April 20, 2004. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Vicki D. and Jim Becker of Jackson, Missouri; granddaughter and husband, Heather D. and Darold Lucus of Marion; step-granddaughters, Jamie Sepulvado and Kim Ahrens; great grandchildren, Grahm Lucus, Madison Lucus, and Crystal Ahrens; sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Ted Smith of Normal; brother-in-law, Paul Wilson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; sister, Mildred Wilson; and sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Leon Howenstein. Mr. Strobel was a member of the Marion First Baptist Church. He taught in the Marion Unit 2 School District for 26 years. He attended Southern Illinois University and University of Illinois. He was a member of the Illinois Education Association and the National Education Association. He served in the United States Army during World War II, stationed in Italy from 1943 to 1945. He received a Purple Heart for injuries suffered during the war.
