Marion Floyd “Bud” Eggen, 89 of Marion passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2012 in Parkway Manor. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion at 1:00 PM with Reverends Kevin McNeely & Ben Eldridge officiating. Mr. Eggen will be interred in McKinney Chapel Cemetery in Goreville. A time of gathering for family and friends will precede at the funeral from 10:00 AM until the service hour. Memorial donations are suggested to the Marion Senior Citizens Center. Envelopes will be made available at the funeral home or may be sent C/O Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home, 800 North Market, Marion, Il, 62959. Mr. Eggen was born on Sunday, January 14, 1923 in Elgin to Charles & Cecelia (Peterson) Eggen. He married Virginia Wasinger; she preceded in him in death on Monday, January 31, 2005. Floyd leaves behind his daughter, Mary Kay & Kenny Blumenstock of Marion; grandson, Matthew & Chris Blumenstock of Marion; great-grandchildren, Braden, Jacob and Caitlyn; daughter-in-law, Mary Eggen of Schaumburg. Mr. Eggen is preceded in death by his parents; wife; sons, William Eggen, Terry Eggen & Gordon Eggen; grandchildren, Ashleigh Blumenstock and Randall Blumenstock. He graduated from Elgin High School and completed courses at Elgin Community College and the University of Wisconsin. He studied banking, auditing and comptroller courses while enrolled. Floyd was a resident of Elgin for over 50 years, being employed at the First National Bank of Elgin. He later owned and operated the Best Western Townhouse Motel in Pocahontas, AR. Prior to his college education, Mr. Eggen served 34 months in the United States Merchant Marines during WWII; spending time in both the Atlantic & Pacific war zones. He was a former member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Elgin an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
